Background:
1.

registered at Companies House in England and Wales, Registration no. 5627222

The Climate
Change Challenge (also hereinafter referred to as “C3”) is open to anyone
and the challenge is to inventors to design a devise which will generate
renewable energy and thus reduce the cost of supplying that energy to a
home.
4.
Entrant/s are
individuals or groups who have applied and are taking part in the Climate
Change Challenge.
1. Entry Requirements
1.1
The Climate
Change Challenge is open to anyone Worldwide. Applications will be accepted
from any age however applicants under the age of 18 will require parental or
guardian consent.
1.2
Applications
will be accepted from individuals or individuals forming a team.
1.3
A team leader must be appointed where the application is from a team
consisting of two or more individuals. Each Team must be given a Team Name
and UK8020 will use that name for all communication purposes. In cases of
team entries, all correspondence relating to the application will be sent to
the Team Leader and referring to that Team Name. It is the responsibility of
the Team Leader to communicate and update the other team individuals not UK
8020’s responsibility.
1.3
Employees of
UK 8020 CIC or its associated companies, their agents or members of their
families are not allowed to enter C3. The Directors’ decision of UK 8020 as
to eligibility will be final.
2. The Application Process
2.1
All
applications must be made on the official C3 application form and will only
be processed when the appropriate application entry fee is received.
2.2
Upon receipt
of the application at UK 8020’s offices, all applications will be
acknowledged either by email or post. If you do not receive a confirmation
of your entry within 14 days, you must contact UK 8020. Proof of posting
will not be considered proof of delivery. No responsibility will be accepted
for lost, delayed or mislaid applications.
2.3
Once the
application and the application fee have been received and approved by
UK8020, refunds of the application fee will not be made even if you wish to
cancel your application.
2.4
All applications must be received no later
than 31st
January 2009.
3. Submission of Designs & Blueprints
3.1
All submissions of designs, blueprints, drawings, prototypes and any other
supporting documentation (hereinafter called “the Design”) must be
submitted by the 31st July
2009
and on receipt of the Design, UK 8020 will if requested enter into a
Confidentiality Agreement with the entrant in the form to be published in
the UK8020 web-site.
3.2
Entrants will
be solely responsible for the security of their Design. All applicants are
advised to seek professional help with regard to protecting their
invention. You are advised before submitting, discussing or communicating
your application to ensure the relevant patents, trademarks or anything
appropriate to protect your invention is in place. UK 8020 and its agents
are not responsible for the protection of your invention, designs or
blueprints or the security of these.
3.3
Entrants will
own full Intellectual Property Rights of their Design whether it is a
winning entry or not. UK 8020 will have no claim nor will they exert any
claim to any rights to any Design.
3.4
All entries will be assessed and judged by a panel of industry experts. A
short list of finalists will be compiled that meet the challenge criteria.
Applicants will be notified whether they have or haven’t made the short list
of finalists by 30th
September 2009.
4. Judging Criteria
4.1
All
applications will be judged on the following criteria:
4.2
Energy
generation – will the invention generate at least 90% of a UK domestic
average household’s electricity currently approximately 5 Megawatt
hours annually.
4.3
Aesthetics –
the looks, size, design and general appearance
4.4
Practicality
– size, ease of use, durability in terms of life expectancy of the renewable
energy generator, associated installation costs.
4.5
Retail Value
– will it be possible for the renewable energy generator to retail and be
installed for £500 (five hundred pounds sterling) or less.
4.6
Global Use –
adaptability of invention in locations around the world.
5. Climate Change Challenge Finalists
5.1
A short-list
of finalists will be prepared and they will be asked to attend an interview
where they will be required to discuss and present their design and or
demonstrate their prototype.
5.2
All interviews will be held in the UK at a location to
be advised. Interviews will take place between
1st October 2009 and 30th
November 2009. If you or if you are a team
at least one of you cannot make the interview you will be disqualified from
the challenge.
5.3
In the event
that no entries meet the qualifying Challenge criteria referred to in
paragraph 4 above then UK 8020 are entitled to decide that no prize will be
awarded for this challenge or have the right to change or amend the rules
terms and conditions of C3 to enable the challenge to be continued on such
amended terms and conditions or to terminate the Challenge.
5.4
No
correspondence or discussion will be entered into regarding the decision of
the Judges. Their decision will be final and unchallengeable.
5. Award Ceremony
1.1
The winning
entry will be announced at an Award Ceremony held at a location in the UK to
be announced. All finalists will be required to attend the Award Ceremony
as part of the conditions of entry into C3.
1.2
The winning
entry will receive £100,000 (one hundred thousand pounds sterling) within 28
days of the Award Ceremony. The method of payment will be arranged with the
winning entrant. The winning entrant will be responsible for any tax
liability in their country of residence that may arise from winning C3.
6. Additional Terms
6.1
UK 8020 reserve the right at their discretion to change or amend the rules
if necessary whilst C3 is running with the exception of the sum of prize
money offered to the winner.
6.2
It is a
condition of entering C3 that all entrants will co-operate with publicity
organised by UK 8020. This may include the taking and publishing of
photographs, interviews whether photographic or video. Publicity may be
used in all types of media. Entrants also agree that all publicity material
may be used for a minimum of five years after the closing date of C3.
6.3
Entrants
requiring documents submitted as part of their application, to be returned
will need to cover the relevant postage/courier handling costs themselves.
6.4
UK 8020
excludes liability to the extent permitted by law for any cost, claims or
losses howsoever caused that arise by reason of any person’s entry into C3.
7. Data Protection
7.1
UK 8020
will hold the entrants personal and application details on its own or a duty
authorised agent’s registered database electronic and/or hard copy. This
information will be kept confidential and will be used only by UK 8020 and
its authorised agents administering C3. This information will not be passed
on to any unauthorised third parties without prior consent of the entrant
except as detailed in point 7.2 of the C3 Rules & Conditions.
7.2
As a
condition of entry into C3, entrants are advised that they automatically
grant permission to UK 8020 to use their personal information for publicity
purposes throughout the Challenge period and for five years after the Award
Ceremony takes place.
The Climate Change Challenge Rules &
Conditions consist of a sequence of seven statements numbered from 1 to 7
culminating on point 7.2
