A NEW strategy to lift Wales’ poorest
families out of fuel poverty will be unveiled today by the Assembly
Government.
It aims to eradicate fuel poverty “as far as is reasonably
practicable” by 2018.
Households are considered poor if fuel bills take up more than 10%
of their income.
The new Fuel Poverty Scheme, which will replace the Home Energy
Efficiency Scheme, is designed to “more effectively target the most
inefficient properties and the most vulnerable households in Wales”.
Environment Minister Jane Davidson said: “Our fuel poverty strategy
provides an opportunity not only to help those struggling to pay
their fuel bills but also provides us with the chance to support the
economic recovery.”
